Every rod I craft is built by hand, by me, whether we are starting with a restored vintage blank or a modern custom build. No matter your budget or vision, there is a path here to build something uniquely yours.

Personalization Options:

• Custom Thread Wraps: Modern patterns or classic styles, using high-grade synthetic threads or rare vintage silk (limited stock).

• Components & Handles: Traditional cork, warm wooden reel seats, or fully restored vintage hardware for an authentic feel.

• Guides: Custom guide metals and specialized stripping guides.

• Vintage Agate Guides: For a truly distinct touch, I offer a limited supply of vintage genuine cut and polished Agate stone stripping guides—the original pre-ceramic standard. 

Finding Your Rod Choice within Your Budget:

• Custom Builds ($750 – $2,000+): Built entirely to your specifications from the ground up.

• Vintage Rod blanks ($500 – $1,200): Classic blanks in inventory, refurbished and ready to build.

• Entry-Level Bamboo ($250+): Refurbished 1950s Japanese bamboo fly rods—an accessible way to fish classic bamboo (extremely limited supply).

• Ready-to-Ship Inventory: Pre-finished rods available if you need a custom-feel rod without the wait time.

Vintage Bamboo Rods

Split Bamboo rods are made from bamboo cane. The bamboo (Tonkin) cane was usually grown for around 5 years. Cut and left to dry for 2 years. Then selected and cut into small 3-4 foot sections. Each section would then be split into 1/4 inch squares. Each square was then shaved into a triangle. 6 triangles perfectly shaped and aligned into a hexagon which was then glued together to form a rod section.  

I inspect every vintage rod when I receive it. If needed, I will glue any separated sections. I then take off the guides, remove the old cork handle and reel seat. Stripping off all the old varnish is next. After this, I use multiple sandpaper grits, ending in 3000 grit to make the rods as smooth as I can. Now it is time for 4-5 coats of Spar Varnish. Once complete I have a vintage rod blank ready for building.

Some vintage rods are just too nice to rebuild. These I try to keep as much of the history alive using the same style wrappings and colors as I can. Utilizing the original handle, reel seat and guides.

I have many vintage rods that are ready to work on. It all depends on what you are looking for.

I can also take your vintage rod and make it look like new.

All the rods I build are beautiful and ready to hang on the wall 

but the real beauty is taking it to the river and fishing with it. 

There is nothing like the feel of a bamboo fly rod.

These blanks are custom ordered and take up to 4 months to make.
